64 th City Tournament

The Mobile Women's Bowling Assocaition held thier 65th Annual City Tournament on Jan. 31st- Feb 1st and Feb.7th-8th at Skyline Lanes. We had over 30 teams and 100 participates in our tournament this year. The Opening Ceremonies were conducted by the Opening Ceremony Committee ( Dorothy Butler, Peggy Moore-Chair, Ruth Yanny, Alice Dickson, Brenda Howard-ex-offcio, and Debbir Etheredge-ex-officio)

Presentation of the Flag was conducted by the Blout High School R.O.T.C. with the National Anthem being sung by Aurelia Thomas.

A memorial service was conducted in remembrance of the members of the Association that had passed away in the past year. A candle was lite for each member.

A musical selection was performed by Shadrack Collins.

Ribbon cutting was performed by MARC Unifeid with the assistance of the Azalea Trail Maids.
The first ball was delivered by Margaret Grider and the tournament began.

A good time was had by all........

During the tournament, Robin Schmitt was presented her ring for bowling a 300 by Ruth Yanny and Association Manager Debbie Etheredge...........

Perfect Game

On December 11, 2008, at Camellia Lanes, Robin Schmidt (3rd from left) did what has never been done in the history of the Mobile WBA. With the encourgement of her team, The Foxy Ladies, Robin shot a perfect 300 game. Robin is shooting on a 182 average.

Open Meeting

The Mobile WBA held thier annual meeting on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Camellia Lanes. The Board of Directors has chosen a new uniform and wore it for the first time at this meeting. Everyone thought it looked really nice and we are excited about showing our "new" look at uncoming events.

The association recognized outstanding women in our association for bowling for 25 consecutive years. Those recognized were Dorothy Butler(below-who is one of our Directors)

Also recognized with a 25 yr plaque was: Charlene Satanthus, Pam Scheurer and Carolyn Morris.

Recognition was given to the top bowler for the 2007-2008 season...that honor was given to Jessica Diegan who had high average with a 201.49, high series with a 730 and high game with a 279. Excellent bowling Jessica. Congradualation goes to Sonya Schilling for high series handicap of a 747. Great Bowling girls....

We are excited about our uncoming events: Scotch Doubles, Holiday No Tap, and the City Tournament.
We officially kicked off our fund raising event for the year: The Walmart Gift Certificates and the raffle for the basket of cheer.

Board of Director Meeting

The Board of Director will hold a meeting Monday, October 6, 2008 at Florida Bowl at 5:15pm to prepare for the Open Meeting on Saturday, Ocotber 11, 2008. The new directors shirts will be given out at that time. Please plan to attend.

Open Meeting

The Mobile Women's Bowling Association will hold thier annual open meeting, Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Camellia Lanes at 10:00am. We will be discussing our upcoming year and the events that will be held by the Association.

Information will be given about the Hall of Fame awards, the upcoming budget, tournaments and our plans for the future of the WBA. This is your association and we (the board)strive to make your bowling experience this year a good one. We are focused on representing you and the Association to the best of our ability.

Board Meeting

There will be a meeting of the Board of Directors on Thursday, August 21th at 5;30 pm at Florida Bowl. We will install 2 directors (Stephanie Brown and Diann Allen)appointed by the President and discuss upcoming events prior to our Annual meeting. Dates for the Holiday No Tap and the City Tournament have been set. We are planning a Scotch Doubles tournament to coincide with the Breast Cancer Awareness in October.
New committees have been formed and those will be given out at the meeting in August.

When the date for the Annual tournament is announced, I will put them on the site.

State Meeting

Mobile USBC WBA was represented in Montgomery by Debbie Etheridge(Association Manager), Alice Dickson( V-President)and Carolyn Fortenberry(Director). The Association was recognized for it's contribution to the Veterans and recieved a plaque from the State Association.

We attended a meeting held by a representative of the USBC giving us information on thier move to the new headquarters in the Dallas area. He told us of possible changes to the awards program. We should get more about that later.

We will have a meeting the end of August and at that time all the committee will be assigned for the upcoming year.

We have some exciting things in the works and hope we have a very successful year for the 2008-2009 year.

State Tournament

Mobile WBA had a strong turn out at the State tournament this year. It was held in a new center in Birmingham and a good time was had by all. We have not recieved the results yet but hope that some of the home folk get some money back.

Those attending were Pat, Jennifer, Mary Margaret and Karen , Deb, Alice, Carolyn, Stephie and Violetta, Brandy (Deb's niece), Diann, Arlette, Marilyn and Sarah. Nancy Wingo bowled her first State Tournament.
As soon as we get the results back I will post them.

CITY TOURNAMENT

The Mobile WBA held thier 63rd City Tournament the weekend of February 9th & 10th and 16th & 17th at Florida Bowl.
Opening ceremonies where conducted by Brenda Howard, President and Juanita Robinson, V-President. Invocation was done by Peggy Moore and the National Anthem was sung by Aurelia Thomas. Ruth Yanney introduced the Bowling Manager and the Mobile USBC WBA Board of Directors was introduced.
The ceremony was addressed by Reggie Copeland(President Mobile City Council)and Presentation of Color by Blount High School ROTC.

A rememberance ceremony was attended by the family members of Mobile WBA Bowlers who had past away in the previous year and a candle was lite by a family member or friend in rememberance of the bowler. A beautiful performance of Amazing Grace was done by Arienne Thomas on the flute.

The Azalea Trial Maids & members of Mobile ARC officially open the event.

Juanita Robinson threw out the first ball for a strike.

Shirts for sale, gift certificates for Ed's and Oyster House, gift baskets and 50/50 gave everyone the opportunity to walk away with something.
We had good participation with 26+ teams, 52 doubles and and over 90 singles. Th official results will be posted soon.
Thanks to all who made this tournament the success it was.

The Mobile Womens Bowling Association held thier annual Hall of Fame Banquet, Thursday February 7th at Nan Sea Restaurant. This banquet honored 5 members of the association that had made significant contributions to the Association and to the sport of bowling.

The Association recognizes members for Meritorious Service or Superior Performance. Each of these ladies was recognized for Meritorious Service to the Association.

Pat Bordelon

Pat has been a member of the Mobile WBA for 20 yrs. She has served as both Secretary, Vice President and President of the Lane Trotters and the Sunshine Trotters. She is a member of the Lady Civic and Blue Flame and has helped in various capacities on both leagues.

She was elected the the Board of Directors in 2001 and has served on the Finance Committee, the City Tournament Committee, as an Auditor . For the last 2 years she has chaired the Senior Tournament. Pat is also Chair for the telephone committee and has served as the Chair for the Awards Committe for 3 years.

She has bowled in the City Tournament for 10 yrs and gone to Nationals for the last 6yrs. If help is needed , all you have to do is make a phone call and Pat is there.

Nina Thigpen

Nina has been a member of the Mobile WBA for 26 yrs. She helped with the Task Force in 1990, Way and Means and the Watermelon Festival Exhibits . She has helped with 50/50 for the last 13 years and is still active in that endevor. She has bowled in Tournament since 1991.

Margaret Nichols

Margaret has been a member of the Mobile WBA for more than 25 yrs. She helped with the Task Force in 1990, worked the Watermelon Festival and the State Fair. She designed the shirt for the 50th Anniversary and the Shrimp Pin.

She was the league secretary for 15 yrs of the Sky Rockets, Nutty Buddies and the Exiles. She has also served on the Rules Committe and as a Director. She was a recorder for the Exhibit Committee.

Faye McInnis

Faye has been a member of the Mobile WBA for 48 yrs. During that time she organized and has been the secretary/treasurer for the Blue Flame League since 1959. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 2001 and has served as the Chair for Refreshements, served on the nominating committe, the audit committee, the publicity committee, Hall of Fame and Way and Means.

She bowled her first State Tournament in 1960 and has bowled State, Nationals and City since that time. As a Director, she is always ready to lend a hand.

Peggy Moore

Peggy has been a member of the Mobile WBA for 30 yrs. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for 3 yrs and has served as the Sgt at Arms during that time. She has Chaired the Ways and Means Committee, helped with the Senior Tournament, Hall of Fame, Budget and Fiance, Audit , Rules and Publicity Committees. She is always available to do what ever is needed. She has served as the Secretary/Treasure for the Lords and Ladies League for 1 yr and V-President of the Gutter Busters for 2 yrs.

Peggy has been the Lane Representative at Camellia, helped with the City Tournament and does all the innovations for our Board meeting and most of our tournaments. She has been a Delegate to both National and State . She support all the tournaments, State, City , Senior , No Tap and Nationals.
